The New Breed of Community Bank Management – What It Now Takes To Succeed

Rich Weissman

President & CEO, DMA

With rapid market changes, the responsibilities of bank management are evolving, and new and cutting-edge management competencies are now needed to effectively compete for bank growth.  At the C-level and down, new kinds of management team roles and skills are becoming increasingly vital.  The ground-breaking presentation will outline the changes unfolding in the industry that require new ways of managing(demographic, generational, economic, technology, media, communication, delivery, pricing), and what the specific profile of successful bank management teams will be in the upcoming decade, covering finance, risk management, marketing, sales, operations, and human resources.  The audience will be challenged to think differently about the composition of and roles within bank management teams, and how the changing environment requires a more relevant management approach.

M&A Simulation
Kate Lynch
Director - Investment Banking, Houlihan Lokey

The presenter will use a case study format to review the acquisition process and M&A trends while giving the audience the opportunity to participate in a hypothetical transaction.  The presenter will walk participants through a step-by-step methodology for developing a price range for bidding on a hypothetical bank target and will demonstrate various negotiating techniques used by investment bankers selling a company.  Audience members will be invited to participate as hypothetical bidders on the transaction.  The “winning” bid will be determined at the end of the session, with a review of key non-financial factors that influence bidding behavior.

The session will increase the skill-set and confidence of bank executives as they evaluate acquisition opportunities and will help them understand some of the negotiating techniques used by investment bankers to induce them to pay a higher price.
